How to Add

To add, you start counting the smallest number from the biggest number.

Example:

5 + 4 = ?
5 + 1 = (6)
5 + 2 = (7)
5 + 3 = (8)
5 + 4 = (9)

Therefore, 5 + 4 = 9.

Adding Numbers Above 10

To add numbers with more than one digit, you align the numbers up vertically by place value and add vertically starting with the rightmost digit.

Example:

24 + 13 = ?

First align the numbers:
  24
+13

Next, add the two rightmost digits:
   4
+ 3
   7

Next, add the first two digits:
  2
+1 
  3
The sum of 24 and 13 is 37.
