Division is the process of determining how many times a number can fit inside another number.

The division symbol is the division (÷) sign.

Division can also be symbolized using a slash (/).

The answer to a division problem is the quotient.

The order of a division problem matters.

How to Divide

Division is the opposite of multiplication, so to divide, you subtract a number from another number until you reach zero.

Example:

15÷5:
(1) 15 - 5 = 10
(2) 10 - 5 = 5
(3) 5 - 5 = 0
The quotient of the problem is however many times you subtracted. For this problem, the quotient is 3.

Times Table

Using and memorizing the times table is key to being able to divide quickly.

However, instead of the answer being the cell, the answer is the row where the numerator (in a cell) and denominator (column) meet.

Example:

90 ÷ 9 = ?

The row that intersects with column 9 at 90 is row 10.
Therefore, 9 goes into 90 10 times.
